About the Cover

Cover Figure

The front cover of Human Reproduction Update illustrates cross-talk between trophoblast and endometrium immediately post-implantation. It is mediated, in part, by cytokines in the directions shown by the arrows. During trophoblast invasion an array of cytokines produced by glands, decidual cells and leukocytes [predominantly uterine-specific natural killer (uNK) cells and macrophages] are likely to promote cellular differentiation, trafficking of leukocytes and trophoblast and continuing decidualization. See Cytokines, chemokines and growth factors in endometrium related to implantation, pages 613–630.
